1. 레이첼이 집에 왔을 바로 그 시점에 벤은 세시간 동안 일을 하던 중이었다.

바로 그 순간을 포착하는 느낌으로 해석하면 됩니다.

위의 문장에서 볼 수 있는 것처럼, 과거에 시작된 것이 과거의 한 시점까지 막 영향을 주는 시적인 장면을 상기시키면서 과거완료진행 시제를 써먹어 봅시다.

The next week, the whole town was buzzing with excitement and joy. Every single lady in town had prepared their best dresses, accessories and shoes for the royal ball. Cinderella’s stepmother and stepsisters were no exception. Cinderella, too, was hoping to go, but the evil stepmother had Cinderella clean the windows, wash the rugs, polish the floors, and scrub every corner of the house, all day long. Finally, the time to go to the ball arrived.

Cinderella! Cinderella! We are ready to leave now.

Cinderella

Yes... yes, stepmother, I just ...I just finished with the kitchen. Phew! That was tiring, but I am ready.

Cinderella had a magical moment dancing with the prince. In fact, she was so captivated that she forgot to check the time. Soon enough, the clock started announcing midnight.

narrator

At the strike of midnight, Cinderella realized she had to run. She quickly said good-bye to the prince, and she started running down the stairs of the palace to where her carriage was parked. In her haste, she dropped one of her glass slippers, but she didn’t have time to pick it up. After Cinderella disappeared from the palace grounds, the prince arrived at the stairs and picked up the slipper. Meanwhile, Cinderella was rushing against the wind.

Cinderella

Come one, hurry up! I need to get home now! I hope nothing bad happens. I promised fairy godmother that I will be back before midnight. I hope I can make it on time.

Cinderella

Oh my! My dress is gone! And the carriage is a pumpkin again! Oh, everything is back to normal.

narrator

The next morning, Cinderella woke up to some rattle outside. People were running in and out of their houses, and soon she found out that the Prince was going house to house searching for the owner of the glass slipper. Cinderella was getting very excited, but when she tried to go downstairs, her stepmother stopped her sharply.

stepmother

So, you thought that sneaking out of the house and wearing a fancy dress was going to work out? Well, too bad, dear, I found out everything.

Cinderella

Please, stepmother, let me see the prince one more time.

stepmother

Ha! Like I’m going to let that happen! You are going to stay here while my daughters get their feet into that slipper. And you better pray the shoe fits!

Cinderella

No! Please! No!

narrator

But it was too late. The prince had arrived at the house, and Cinderella evil stepsisters tried to fit their feet inside the glass slipper. Cinderella could hear the stepsisters struggling to get their big feet into the shoe....

stepsister

Wait... I know it will fit... ahh.... just a bit more... push mother, push....

narrator

But it was in vain. The prince gave up, and he was about to take off to the next house. Cinderella was getting very anxious. Right then...

godmother

Well, hello! I believe someone needs some help around here!

Cinderella

Fairy godmother! Thanks goodness! Please, open the door quickly! I need to meet the prince now!

stepmother

I know, I know, dear. It will be done in just a moment!

Cinderella

Thank you fairy godmother! Thank you! Wait! Wait! I haven’t tried on the shoe! Wait!

stepmother

What! How did you get out of that room?!

Cinderella

I... believe... I believe that shoe is mine.

Prince

Wait! You look like her...from the party...but let’s see if the shoe fits first.

Prince
