Dark tourism (also black tourism or grief tourism) has been defined as tourism involving travel to places historically associated with death and tragedy.[1] More recently, it was suggested that the concept should also include reasons tourists visit that site, since the site's attributes alone may not make a visitor a "dark tourist".[2] Thanatourism,[3] derived from the ancient Greek word thanatos for the personification of death, refers more specifically to peaceful death; it is used in fewer contexts than the terms dark tourism and grief tourism. The main attraction to dark locations is their historical value rather than their associations with death and suffering.

이렇듯 슬픔의 광경도 투어가 될 수 있겠지만, 빈곤 포르노는 뭔가 다른 의미로 다가옵니다. 에티오피아의 빈곤, 방글라데시의 빈곤한 아동에게, 슬픔을 강요하는 것은 다른 차원의 문제가 되는거겠죠.
사람들이 아프리카에 대해 가지고 있는 인식의 대부분은 처참한 빈곤과 질병 상태에 놓인 대륙 및 절망에 함몰되어 있는 비참하고 미개한 사람들이다. 이런 인식은 대부분 국제개발 단체들이 미디어를 통해 엄청난 광고 홍보비를 투자하면서 계속하고 있는 모금 캠페인 영상이 그 핵심 원인이다. 모금 영상을 통해 방영된 획일화된 이미지들이 아프리카에 대한 편견을 심화시키고 있다.
모금을 할 수 있다면 수단과 방법을 가리지 않는다 라는걸까요..
